The thinning is already over for Ferrari
Alexander Albon, only ninth in the morning, raised his level of play with the fourth time, but 982 thousandths behind Valtteri Bottas. The Thai is ahead of the two Renault drivers, Daniel Ricciardo ahead of Esteban Ocon by less than a tenth. The French team is in third place at the end of this first day of testing on a circuit used by Formula 1 for the very first time in Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly remains on the path to his victory in the Italian Grand Prix with eighth fastest time, just behind Sergio Pérez. Surprising third at the start of the day, Charles Leclerc logically fell in the hierarchy with the tenth time almost a second and a half behind the best time while Sebastian Vettel started again, pointing less than a tenth behind his teammate before knowing a breakdown after the checkered flag. But the 1000th Scuderia Ferrari Grand Prix is not shaping up to be the best auspicious. Romain Grosjean, for his part, was handicapped by a problem with his engine, having only completed five laps for a final time in the end anecdotal.
