After a convincing start in the Butagaz Energie League on Wednesday, Brest got off to a good start on the European scene. On their floor at the Brest Arena, Laurent Bezeau’s players waited for the last quarter of the match to get the best of Valcea. The two teams surrendered blow for blow during the first quarter of an hour but it was the players of the Romanian club who set the tone in this meeting, taking three goals in advance after 20 minutes of play. But, thanks in particular to Sladjana Pop-Lazic (7 goals), the Brestoises made their delay to point in the lead with a little more than two minutes to play. However, Marta Lopez Herrero (4 goals) equalized in stride.

A one-sided end to the game for Brest

Pauline Coatanea and Ana Gros had the ball to allow the BBH to find his locker room in front of the score but both failed against Diana Cristiana Ciuca (8 saves). Like the start of the first period, the second act saw the two teams play an even game but it only lasted about ten minutes. Indeed, thanks to a 5-0 in just under six minutes, led by Tonje Loseth (2 goals) and Ana Gros (8 goals), the Brestoises put a big blow on the head of the players of Valcea. The latter then pushed to try to get back to the score before the buzzer but the defense of the Breton club was very solid. In the end, Brest won by seven goals (28-21) and thunderingly launched its European season, which will see the players of Laurent Bezeau dig teams like Györ and Buducnost Podorica.
