Packages and surprises

Between the surprises, the packages and the postponement of the match between Chartres and Le Portel, the landscape of the 64th finals of the French basketball Cup has been turned upside down. This Wednesday, three teams were qualified even before the jump ball: Souffelweyersheim, Denain and Quimper. They took advantage of the Boulogne-sur-Mer, Orchies and GET Vosges packages. Another match was disrupted by the Covid-19: Chartes – Le Portel which was postponed. In this somewhat particular context where French clubs were making their comeback after more than six months of hiatus, two teams fell from the top. At home, Elan Chalon was beaten by Fos, a second division club (65-81). At home, the 2017 French champion could not do anything against the Byers and in particular the 27 points of Kevin McClain. The Burgundians never seemed to be able to win. Pau Lacq Orthez is the other Jeep Elite club that has disappointed. Traveling to Tours, a formation of NM1, Elan Béarnais lost despite a 12-point lead in the second half (83-81). The external efficiency of the Temgoua-Ateba duo (8/10 between them at 3-points) offered qualification to the third division club.

Orleans and Chalon-Reims enforce logic

Fortunately for the Jeep Elite, two other clubs enforced logic. Orleans brought back the qualification of Evreux (79-93) while Chalon-Reims did not tremble with a victory of 30 points on the floor of Kaysersberg (57-87). Nantes, resident of Pro B also dismissed Toulouse, a club evolving one level below (59-75). Same pattern for Blois against Bordeaux (95-61). In a second division duel, Saint-Quentin won on the floor of Paris Basketball (76-85). The competition continues from Wednesday with many matches including Roanne-Antibes.
