False start for French men’s volleyball! While the Final Four of the Women’s French Cup went off without a hitch last weekend in Cannes (Aix-Venelles victory in the final) and the championship resumed on Friday, the Final Four of the Coupe de Men’s France, scheduled for this weekend in Toulouse, has been canceled. The clubs of Paris and Toulouse first withdrew Friday for their semi-final due to cases of covid-19, then it was Tours, automatically qualified for the final, against Poitiers, which announced its withdrawal for health reasons, arguing that the Toulouse Sports Palace had been the site of a cluster. A decision that did not really please the Federation, as its president Eric Tanguy indicated in a press release.

“The FFVolley therefore regrets the decision of Tours Volley-Ball”

“The French Volleyball Federation takes note of the unilateral decision of the Tours Volley-Ball club not to travel to the Final 4 of the Coupe de France which was to take place this weekend in Toulouse at the André Brouat Sports Center. The FFVolley and the organizing club of Spacer’s Toulouse had decided to maintain and play the final behind closed doors this weekend despite the packages of the clubs of Paris and Toulouse for proven cases of COVID-19. Indeed, this event, like the women’s final 4 which took place last week in Cannes, was to mark the start of a new season and promise the resumption of our activities. The Prefecture of Haute Garonne not having reversed the holding of the competition (although lowering the gauge to 1000 spectators), the decision to play the final behind closed doors to avoid the mixing of the population, the establishment of ‘a strict health protocol validated by the local authorities (Prefecture and Town Hall) provided all the guarantees that the competition would run smoothly without jeopardizing the integrity of the delegations. The FFVolley therefore regrets the decision of the Volley-Ball Tours not to allow Volleyball fans to experience a great back-to-school event, which was to be co-broadcast in clear on Sport in France and La Chaine L’Equipe and above all was to restore confidence. to our practitioners for the resumption of supervised and secure activity. The lack of discernment of the reigning French Champion club contributes to damaging the image of Volley, which must nevertheless remain united in these uncertain times. It goes without saying that the Federation will continue to do its utmost to promote the practice of volleyball at all levels and this obviously in accordance with the health protocols issued by the Ministry of Sports and prefectural decisions. »The Coupe de France 2019-20 now belonging to the past, make way for the championship! The 2020-21 League A season will begin on October 1 with the Toulouse-Montpellier match. If all goes well…
