Lance Gross invested years attempting to persuade his employer, Tyler Perry, to let him sport his now-signature beard on TELEVISION.
“It took me so long. He would not let me grow it out when we started ‘House of Payne’ back in 2007,” Gross, 39, informed Page Six Style. “I had facial hair, but they made a decision that they wanted my character, Calvin Payne, to look younger. So I always had to shave and I hated it. I hated every moment of it.”
Continued the star, “It took me years to convince Tyler and the production to let me start rocking the facial hair, so I’m very happy. I think I bought it up to them so much that they finally said okay. At one point I was like, ‘Calvin is married now, he has kids, let them have facial hair,’ and they finally agreed to it.”
Now, Gross states he’s identified to keep his scruff looking sharp, even utilizing beard oil as required.
“I just make sure it’s clean. Cleanliness is next to godliness, so I make sure it’s right,” he stated. “I touch it up and grow it in right.”
“House of Payne” airs Wednesday nights on BET.
