The Mercedes team did not approach the Eifel Grand Prix in the best possible way. The German formation, which runs on its grounds this weekend at the Nürburgring, confirmed this Thursday that one of its members is infected with the coronavirus and has, thus, been put in isolation. Faced with this positive test, all the staff who traveled to western Germany underwent a new wave of tests carried out on Thursday, the results of which were confirmed at midday on Friday … and they are not good. Indeed, Mercedes has confirmed that another member of its team is affected by the coronavirus and that another test has proved inconclusive, the person concerned having to be tested again in the wake.

Mercedes recalled reinforcements from UK

Strictly applying the protocol put in place by F1 and the FIA, the German team immediately traced the contacts of those who tested positive. As a result, no less than seven Mercedes employees will not be able to intervene during the weekend, being immediately placed in isolation to prevent the spread of the virus. In order to compensate for these absences, the formation based in Brackley announced that six of its members made the trip from the United Kingdom to the Nürburgring. Last minute changes, the scope of which has not been announced by the star brand, which could however disrupt its proper functioning throughout the race weekend, already largely altered by the difficult weather above of the Eifel, which forced the cancellation of the first two free practice sessions.
