Valtteri Bottas (FIN / Mercedes) – Pole position

“It’s a really nice feeling to take pole in the last moments of the session, on the last attempt. I had the best lap at the best time, putting everything right end to end. In these conditions, getting the tires to work in the right window was really difficult. I worked on the brakes to get the tires to the right temperature, and it worked well. I hope to turn this pole into a victory tomorrow (Sunday), I will have to get a good start and we will see what happens … “

Lewis Hamilton (GBR / Mercedes) – 2nd

“Well done to Valtteri Bottas, who managed to finish two tenths in front of me, he did a very good job. It’s an amazing circuit, a history of F1 and it’s really great to be back here. We will work tonight to prepare for the race. The graining on the tires could play a role, be a problem. The behavior of the tires remains a question, we have to calculate when we will be able to stop. If the safety car comes out, it will be difficult to keep the tires at temperature. “

Max Verstappen (PBS / Red Bull Racing) – 3rd

“It was a very interesting qualifying session, because we couldn’t race yesterday (Friday). In Q3 I suffered from understeer and, under these conditions, I had grainy on the tires. But, overall, we are getting closer to the Mercedes, which is very positive. I’m a little disappointed, obviously, because I hoped for better. It should be even colder tomorrow (Sunday), so it will be very interesting with the tires. It’s a very fun track to drive on, I’m looking forward to the race. “

Charles Leclerc (MCO / Ferrari) – 4th

“I don’t really know, I’m quite surprised, especially with this weather, I expected that we would have some difficulties. Since the start of the season we have had difficulty getting the tires to work when it’s cold and today (Saturday) it looks like it worked. I am very happy, especially with my last lap. I put everything end to end and fourth place is great. It will be a very interesting race because we are all going a little bit into the unknown. We didn’t do a stint with a lot of fuel and it will be important to pay attention to the tires, and to try to anticipate which tire is degrading first. This is what I will focus on tomorrow (Sunday). “

Alexander Albon (THA / Red Bull Racing) – 5th

“I’m pretty happy with my qualifying round but there are still things to improve. Even though we didn’t have a lot of time in free practice, I felt the car behaved well from the start. I appreciate this two-day format, it reminds me of F2 and F3. Obviously, it would have been nice to finish ahead of Charles Leclerc, he had a good lap but we were passed just at the end. Fifth place is not a bad starting position and from there we can fight. “

Esteban Ocon (FRA / Renault) – 7th

“It was a good qualifying session for us today (Saturday), especially after having only had one free practice session. I am happy with this seventh place. We had limited knowledge on the track after not being able to ride yesterday (Friday) and only one session today (Saturday). We started the car in qualifying and it worked well in Q1, I’m happy with that. We are plunging into the unknown tomorrow (Sunday) because I only used soft tires in free practice and during qualifying. We will see how the tires will behave during the race and how many laps they will last. We will see what will happen but we are in a good position to score some big points. “

Pierre Gasly (FRA / AlphaTauri) – 12th

“In the last few races, it wasn’t always successful for us to be in Q3 and to start with worn soft tires, so from this point of view, this result is positive. But I also think that we lacked performance compared to the teams with which we usually fight. They were faster than us and we knew after the third free practice session that it would be difficult for us. We didn’t really manage to improve the car before qualifying. For the tires, things are going pretty well. You have to be careful when you come out of the pits, with cold tires, but in the end it’s easier than I thought. “

Romain Grosjean (FRA / Haas) – 16th

“I’m very pissed off, I don’t really want to talk. With our car, we know that we have to give our all on each lap. I did a bit too much on the first and had traffic on the second. There you go … We don’t really have any ideas of what awaits us tomorrow (Sunday) for the race, but good for us. “

Nico Hulkenberg (ALL / Racing Point) – 20th

“It’s a normal day in my life, all my weekends are crazy, but in a different way. I was really called at the last minute this time, it was 11 a.m. this morning when I was told to come to the circuit as quickly as possible, to take a Covid-19 test and participate in qualifying. Given the circumstances, I’m pretty happy with my performance. It’s a home Grand Prix for me, I want to savor it to the fullest. I know this circuit well, I rode there a lot in promotion formulas. I want to have fun and get the best result of course. If I ever manage to finish in the points, it will be incredible. But it will be very difficult. “
