NEW YORK (AP) – Stevie Wonder released two new songs on Tuesday that reflect the current times that he hopes will inspire this change.

The piano-playing icon dropped the songs ‘Where Is Our Love Song’ and ‘Can’t Put It In the Hands of Fate,’ which he also announced would be released through his new label So What the Fuss Music, distributed through Universal Music Group’s Republic Records (Wonder signed with Motown Records for most of his career).

The 70-year-old made the announcement Tuesday at a virtual press conference and also provided an update on his health, saying he was “blessed with a new kidney” last December.

“Since I was released from the hospital, the nurses have made sure that I take my medicines on time and I will take it for as long as I need to, even if it is for the rest of my life. I feel amazing. My voice feels great, ”he said. “I feel like I’m about forty now and I thank everyone for the prayers and love.”

“And for all the people who have listened to these rumors, listen, if I feel any way I will let you know,” he continued. ‘We don’t want misinformation. I am very much alive. “

Tuesday’s announcement – which Wonder said was his first time releasing two songs at once – coincided with the 36th birthday of his second eldest son, Mumtaz Morris.

Wonder said he started writing “Where Is Our Love Song” when he was 18. “Then this year came,” he said, “with all the confusion and all the hatred and all the East versus the West, left versus right. It’s just a tough break.”

All Proceeds From “Where Is Our Love Song” – featuring Grammy-winning guitarist Gary Clark Jr. – benefit Feeding America.

Rappers Busta Rhymes, Rapsody, Cordae and Chika appear on “Can’t Put It In the Hands of Fate” and Wonder said he was planning on recording the songs on a new EP.

He explained that ‘Can’t Put It In the Hands of Fate’ was originally a song about a relationship, but then updated the lyrics after ‘thinking about where we (are) in the world and thinking about how this is most crucial. time.”

“Change is right now. We cannot put it in the hands of fate. Nobody has time to wait,” he said. “We cannot leave it to fate to find a cure for this terrible virus. We have to get on our knees and pray or whatever you do. “

“I want everyone to be healthy,” he continued. “I don’t care what color you are, because actually I don’t see your color. You see color, don’t pretend you don’t see color, you do. But I don’t see your visual color. But I feel your soul. feel your spirit. I see the color of your mind and soul, and I see too many spirts and souls that are not about the love that we should have and feel for each other. “
