Perhaps it is a bittersweet victory for Metz. For the first match of the 5th day of the Butagaz Energie League, the players of Manu Mayonnade clearly got the better of a frail team from Saint-Amand-les-Eaux but, in a season on the calendar which can appear to be hellish, the injury Ivana Kapitanovic could be bad news for Messines. Led by Laura Kanor (7 goals), the Mosellanes started the match strong with a 5-0 in five minutes which set the tone. The teammates of Chloé Pugliese (6 goals) tried everything to stay a minimum in the match but the iron defense set up by Metz did not leave them much latitude with only three goals scored in the first quarter of an hour of the match. A vice that timidly loosened before half-time, reached with a delay already standing at thirteen lengths.

Metz trembles with Kapitanovic injury

The start of the second period was of the same ilk with Metz very solid in defense and unperturbed in defense. It must be said that the northerners goalkeepers Helena de Sousa and Manuella dos Reis, who shared out the playing time fairly, between them only stopped seven of the 48 shots suffered during this meeting. With eighteen goals ahead with 20 minutes from the end of the game, Méline Nocandy’s Messines (6 goals) had a very bad time when their goalkeeper Ivana Kapitanovic (4 saves) remained on the ground, complaining of one knee before leaving the floor of the Arena. Hatadou Sako (9 saves) then came into play to finish the match. The Metz defense dropped ballast for a victory in the end with an advantage of 21 lengths (41-20). A fifth victory in as many outings which allows Metz to stay ahead of the championship while Brest, who was to face Besançon on Wednesday, saw his match postponed due to coronavirus.
