The The Daily News Box (MSP), through the Zonal Coordination 5 – Health, carried out the workshop on “Strengthening HIV / AIDS – STI actions”, in order to train health professionals in Guayas, Los Ríos , Bolívar and Santa Elena on the current situation of the disease in the country.
During the inauguration of the workshop, Jorge Romero, Zonal 5 – Health coordinator, stated that executing public health policies is a fundamental pillar to achieve the objectives of the MSP. “This workshop will strengthen the knowledge of physicians and improve health coverage,” added Romero.
Rodrigo Tobar, manager of the National Strategy for HIV / AIDS – STI, said that based on the characteristics and needs of each area, issues of deconcentration of health services, prevention, comprehensive care, stigma and discrimination are being analyzed.
In 2019, approximately 4,300 new cases of HIV were reported and currently 31,000 patients are on antiretroviral treatment in the comprehensive health care units (UAIS) of the MSP.
The UAIS have a multidisciplinary team, which refers the patient according to their health status and is given care, treatment and the test that must be performed twice a year.
The course will be held in the city of Guayaquil, until October 23, and is aimed at epidemiologists, specialists in microbiology, managers of comprehensive health care units and district and hospital prevention strategists of the Zonal coordination 5 – Health.
