After almost three weeks of inactivity, ASVEL missed its return to the floor. The club of president Tony Parker, who found the Euroleague after being deprived of competition by the spread of the coronavirus in its ranks, has long held the bar against Zalgiris Kaunas before losing control of the meeting. Indeed, the Villeurbanne have shown themselves to be solid in defense and effective in attack to lead by twelve lengths from the conclusion of the first quarter, concluded with a 7-0 led by Guerschon Yabusele (17 points, 6 rebounds). But Zalgiris Kaunas did not get out of the match, taking advantage of a series to return to three lengths … then to cash a 10-0 which gave the Villeurbannais air again. Long held above the ten-point mark, the gap finally narrowed just before half-time, the Lithuanians returning to nine lengths when they returned to their locker room.
ASVEL missed the “money time”
If the Rhone and Charles Kahudi (18 points) started the second act well, it quickly became clear that Martin Schiller’s players came back with a completely different state of mind. Led by a huge Marius Grigonis (25 points), Zalgiris Kaunas began to turn the situation in his favor from the third quarter. Led by eleven points at the start of the period, the Lithuanian club gradually reduced the gap to return to only three lengths at the buzzer. The last ten minutes will be forgotten for TJ Parker and ASVEL. Countered in attack with only fourteen points registered, the Villeurbanne suffered the waves. After resisting at the start of the fourth quarter, the gap between the two teams has inevitably widened over time. Thanks to 5-0 and 6-0, Zalgiris Kaunas got hold of a match that has eluded him for a long time, concluding it with an advantage of nine lengths (74-83). The Lithuanians thus forget their first defeat of the season against Valencia while ASVEL confirms its difficulties with this third loss in a row.
