Top 14 – Pau: Votu suspended for six weeks

ByRoborto Sykes

Oct 29, 2020
We won’t see Watisoni Votu on the pitch again until December 7th. The Pau winger was in fact suspended for six weeks by the Disciplinary Commission of the National Rugby League following his cathedral plating on Bordeaux’s Geoffrey Cros on October 17. Votu had received a red card in the 81st minute of this match won 29-24 by the Pau Section and risked a maximum of ten weeks of suspension. Due to extenuating circumstances, the suspension will ultimately be six weeks, and the 35-year-old will therefore miss the matches against La Rochelle, Racing 92, Toulouse, Toulon and Castres. We should see him again for the start of the Challenge Cup, the weekend of December 12-13. Since the start of the season, Votu had played five Top 14 matches under the jersey of Pau (currently 5th in the standings), but without scoring a single try.

Press release from the National Rugby League Disciplinary Commission

Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées / Union Bordeaux Bègles of October 17, 2020 (D5 TOP 14)
Red card
Mr. WATISONI VOTU was found guilty of “Dangerous play” and in particular of “Lifting an opponent off the ground and letting him fall or pushing him towards the ground so that his head and / or upper body hit the ground” . It is the average degree of the gravity scale which was retained, that is to say a suspension of 10 weeks. Considering the aggravating factors (disciplinary record), the sanction was increased by one week. After taking into account the mitigating factors (acknowledgment of guilt, expression of remorse, good behavior before and during the hearing), the sanction was reduced by five weeks. Consequently, Mr. WATISONI VOTU is suspended for 6 weeks. The suspension took effect on the day of the meeting. As of October 28, 2020, taking into account the schedule of matches played by the Section Paloise Béarn Pyrénées, Mr. Watisoni VOTU will be requalified on Monday, December 7, 2020.
