Decidedly, Vannes never ceases to surprise. Traveling to Nevers (22-35), the Bretons went to win a 7th success in eight games this season and therefore temporarily pass Oyonnax in the standings. Jostled at the Pré Fleuri stadium, Pierre Popelin’s teammates managed to reverse the trend thanks to a superb end to the match. Led (22-16) less than a quarter of an hour from the end of the meeting, the tests of Quentin Dubreuil, Pierre Pagès and Ambrose Curtis allowed the Breton club to reverse the situation and to chain a 6th victory in a row in Pro D2. While Oyonnax took the lead in the standings on Thursday, ahead of Perpignan, it is now the RCV which is in control with 29 points, but with one or two more games than its direct competitors. Next week, the meeting in Biarritz could make it possible to judge a little better the chances of the club to compete over time this season. It should also be noted that in the middle of the table, Rouen dominated Valence Romans (28-14), thanks in particular to 23 points at the foot of Peter Lydon, and returned to equality with their opponent of the day.

Provence Rugby is relaunched, Montauban comes out of the water

After an interesting start to the season, then three games without a win, Provence Rugby returned to the success of nothing in Carcassonne (30-31), this Friday evening. Traveling to Albert-Domec, during this 8th day of Pro D2, Fabien Cibray’s players had to fight against locals who believed in it to the end. In front of the scoreboard, thanks in particular to 26 points at the foot of Florent Massip, the Provençaux saw Carcassonne come back strong with two tries in the last quarter of an hour of Harry Glover and Bakary Meité. In the end, Provence Rugby held firm, won on the road and took 5th place in the standings, tied with BO and ahead of Colomiers. In the last meeting of the day, the duel of the poorly classified saw Montauban win at home against Soyaux Angoulême (27-17) and took the opportunity to leave the red zone, while the beaten were last. Authors of a superb start (20-0 at the break), the premises then saw their opponent return in the evening. But a converted try from Jérôme Bosviel offered a little more peace to the Montalbanais at the end of the match.
