Some Jeep Elite clubs wanted to interrupt the season for the duration of the reconfinement, others wanted to continue it anyway. Finally, it is an intermediate decision which was taken after several days of discussion by the Steering Committee of the National Basketball League: the season will continue, but the clubs which do not wish to play behind closed doors (synonymous with big losses financial) will not be required to do so. During the various meetings, the clubs agreed on three principles: do not put an end to this season despite the extreme complexity of the situation, preserve the economy of the clubs and avoid a cascade of bankruptcy filings and ensure the continuity of the visibility of basketball.

ASVEL, Boulogne-Levallois and Monaco will play

According to The team, the biggest budgets that are ASVEL, Monaco and Boulogne-Levallois have already agreed to play at home behind closed doors, and six other clubs playing in the European Cup wish to play away. This will therefore allow the LNB to guarantee the desired minimum of two games played per day so that they are televised (one in Sport in France on saturday and one on The Channel The Team Sunday or Monday). For the coming weekend, it will therefore be Boulogne-Levallois – Pau on Saturday and ASVEL – OrlĂ©ans on Sunday. All the meetings that cannot be played in November (five days are planned), or even in December if the confinement continues, will be postponed. This promises a ranking upside down, with teams who have played all their matches and others who will be five behind.

Pro B changes program

In addition, as regards the Pro B, the championship is interrupted, but the month of November will be used to play Leaders Cup matches (less important for club income, even behind closed doors), with the final scheduled for November 22, which will allow the winner to secure a place for the next play-offs, even if he does not finish in the Top 8. For now, Fos-sur-Mer, Blois, Nancy, Paris and Denain have already qualified for the quarter-finals, while waiting for the group matches postponed due to cases of coronavirus to be played.
