Richard Gasquet smiles again

End of series (black) for Richard Gasquet. After three consecutive eliminations in the first round, at Roland Garros, Saint Petersburg and Antwerp, the latest to date, the Biterrois, who had not won a match since last August at the US Open, returned to victory, this Tuesday for his debut in the tournament. Released in the second round by the future winner Jack Sock during his last participation, two years ago, Gasquet was again the icing (6-0, 3-6, 6-3, 137 of play) against another American Taylor Fritz, 29th in the world ranking. Joined in the scoring after a great start which resulted in a 6-0 inflicted on his opponent, the 56th in the world regained its superb, especially on the backhand, his favorite shot, in the third and final set. From the outset, Gasquet had two break points to save – he spoke of it afterwards as the turning point of the match – but he did it perfectly before setting off again against the Californian for join Diego Schwartzman in the 2nd round. In three confrontations between the two men, “Richie” has never lost a set. But the Argentine, who has since entered the World Top 10, is in great shape. And he can still aspire to validate his ticket for the Masters.

Moutet beaten by … Covid-19

The lucky Italian loser not much better classified than him Salvatore Caruso had not got the better of the young Francilien. The Covid-19, much tougher, was, on the other hand, ruthless. Tested positive, Corentin Moutet (21) had to leave the tournament on Tuesday and isolate himself the day after his victory in pain in the first round at the expense of the Transalpine. Tested Monday morning before his match against Caruso and waiting for the result, the 75th world will not even have the pleasure of appearing on the court against Marin Cilic, a meeting scheduled for Tuesday night session. Package, it allows the Croatian to qualify without playing.
