UNICEF and the Government of Korea donated 240,000 KF94-type masks to the The Daily News Box (MSP), valued at USD 487,200 with the purpose of contributing and supporting frontline health personnel fighting to prevent COVID-19.
This donation was received this Wednesday, May 5, in the presence of the authorities, the Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, Salomón Proaño, the Deputy Representative of UNICEF, Juan Enrique Quiñonez, and the Korean Ambassador, Bongwoo KO.
During the delivery, Vice Minister Proaño stressed that this action highlights the good relationship that South Korea and our country have. “These masks will reach each of the health professionals in the 9 areas that Ecuador has, so we appreciate the solidarity support to combat COVID-19,” he said.
Quiñonez, for his part, explained that this initiative is part of the global humanitarian response plan for 24 countries, including Ecuador, and this represents the fifth installment by this international organization. “We are committed to continuing to strengthen the capacities of the MPS to ensure timely attention to the population,” he added.
Similarly, the Korean Ambassador, described this donation as significant. “Health professionals are the main actors to fight against the pandemic that we are currently experiencing. I want to express my gratitude to the Ecuadorian staff, ”he said. According to the Korean Government, these masks have an air filtration effectiveness of 94%.
The National Hospital Directorate has confirmed that the donated masks will be distributed to different hospitals nationwide to preserve the health and well-being of their staff.
