LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Global Citizen fundraising concert that advocates the importance of vaccination worthiness has raised $ 302 million and exceeded the goal of the organization’s campaign.
Global Citizen announced on Saturday that the money raised has contributed to obtaining more than 26 million doses during “Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World.” The organization said money was raised through various philanthropic and business commitments.
President Joe Biden, Prince Harry and Jennifer Lopez were among the big names who took part in the event, which was taped on May 2 and aired Saturday. Radio stations ABC, ABC News Live, CBS, YouTube and iHeartMedia will broadcast the concert at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Selena Gomez hosted the show, which was attended by several thousand fully vaccinated concertgoers who cheered on the performances of Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin, HER and Lopez enjoying a duet with her mother.
Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Penn and David Letterman were special guest speakers.
Vax Live was one of the largest concert gigs in Southern California since the coronavirus pandemic raged around the world more than a year ago.
The organizers called the event the country’s first large-scale music event for a COVID 19-compliant audience. Media and production workers were required to show a negative COVID-19 test before entering the stadium.
